"What--" James begins, and it becomes momentarily clear that he's forgotten about the fact that he was cooking anything at all entirely. His eyes go wide and he hops to his feet, hurrying over to the stove and muttering a quick "Merlin's balls" as he yanks the pan from the burner. "Shouldn't you be getting back to school before you're caught out?"
He starts to move to the sink wiith the pan.
"You are still a student, Scorpius, and I know you're a little jealous at how much more adult and mature I am, but I'm afraid you'll just have to deal with it." James is just being silly, clumsily trying to lighten the mood, but he seems to have jinxed himself, too. Maybe it's the universe rebuking him for bragging about being an adult -- the very moment he finishes talking, he sloshes some of the near-boiling water onto his hand and drops the entire pan into the sink with a hiss.
