Scorpius has both his parents genes, and he's well aware that neither of them were exactly the physical type. Quite unlike James Potter's parents, who had both been Quidditch players in their youth, with his mum continuing to some fame before starting their family. So James has one up on him before Scorpius even lifts a fist.
